The Yilo Krobo District is about 805km square in size and is one of the fifteen districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana, thus it covers about 4.165% of the total land area of the region. Positioned between latitudes 6º 00’N and 6º 30’ N and longitudes 00º 30’ W and 1º 00’ W, Yilo Krobo District is surrounded by six other districts. These are Manya Krobo District which is to the East, Akwapim North and Dangme Districts, are to the South and it is bounded on West and East by the Akim, Fanteakwa and the New Juaben Districts, respectively. Predominantly, the people of Yilo Krobo District are farmers. They cultivate food items such as cassava, yam cocoyam, plantain, mango, tomatoes, corn, pepper and many other kinds of food items.

In most rural dwellings or settler areas, the chief farmer who is also called Dade-Mantse in the Krobo dialect, represents the traditional King. Thus, in almost every village or small town in the Krobo area the traditional king is represented by the Dade Mantse. Hence, the Dade Mantse may not come from the same family with the traditional king. However, the only criterion which makes him eligible to lead his community is his ability to be adjudged as the chief farmer.
